2026 ED138

Designation

2026 ED138 is a large, bright trans-Neptunian object and dwarf planet candidate discovered in 2026 by scientists using data from NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Located roughly 46 astronomical units (au) from the Sun, it orbits far in the outer reaches of our Solar System beyond Neptune. With an estimated diameter between 600 and 1500 kilometers, it's one of the largest potential dwarf planets discovered in recent history!

Did you know: 2026 ED138 went unnoticed for years because it was hidden in a crowded field of stars within the plane of the Milky Way! Once Rubin Observatory detected it, scientists were able to search archival images and recover observations of it all the way back to 2016.
